Which ice resurfacer do I need for my rink?
The model depends mainly on the ice surface. Then comes the use: a skating rink that opens for a few weeks is not the same as an arena with hockey and skating every day.

We recommend
WM Mammoth ice resurfacer
Around 2,600 m² · 100% electric
Or the WM Shira, with excellent value for money.

Rinks under 300 to 400 m² do not need a resurfacer: two people maintain the ice by hand in about 15 minutes. If you still want a machine, the smallest is the WM Pinguino.

Ice resurfacer FAQ
What is an ice resurfacer and what does it do?
It is the machine that keeps the ice on a rink smooth. A blade shaves the surface and collects the snow left by the skates, then it spreads a very thin layer of warm water that freezes and erases the marks. It is also called an ice resurfacing machine.
Ice resurfacer or zamboni: is it the same thing?
Yes, they are different names for the same type of machine. Zamboni is the brand of another manufacturer that became so well known that many people use it for any ice resurfacer. The WM technics resurfacers we sell are made by a different manufacturer, based in Italy.
From what ice rink size do you need a resurfacer?
On rinks under 300 to 400 m² the ice is maintained by hand: two people with special scrapers remove the snow and spread a very thin layer of water in about 15 minutes. Above that size a resurfacer is worth it, because it does the same job in a single pass and leaves the ice smoother.
Is an electric or a diesel resurfacer better?
For indoor ice rinks, electric: it runs on batteries and gives off no fumes inside the building. Diesel models are for outdoor rinks. The WM Compact comes in both versions, and the WM Evo² can have a diesel, petrol or electric motor.
What is the difference between the Mammoth and the Shira?
Both are electric and designed for arenas of around 2,600 m², with the same tanks. The Mammoth has two touchscreens, a multi-function joystick and a blade change in under 60 seconds. The Shira has one touchscreen, a market-standard thick blade that is changed in about 5 minutes, and excellent value for money.
How long does it take to change the blade?
It depends on the model. On the WM Mammoth and WM Evo² the blade is changed in under 60 seconds. On the WM Shira, in about 5 minutes. A fast blade change shortens the time the rink is closed.
What is the WM Snip for?
For the edges. The resurfacer cannot reach right up to the boards, and a ridge of ice builds up there that looks bad and gets in the way of skaters. The WM Snip is a manually guided electric edger that leaves those edges perfect.
